Take The National Driving Test!
One of the most common questions asked to millions of people over the last 100 plus years; “Are you a good driver?” That’s always been a difficult question to answer. There are so many factors involved in making that decision. Once you throw in distractions, it can seriously affect your driving ability.
Well, now you can help determine if you’re a risk taker or not, or if you can ignore the distractions around you to focus on driving. To help drivers stay focused on their driving, 2011 has been named The National Year of Road Safety. Young Drivers of Canada (www.yd.com), along with State Farm Insurance (www.statefarm.ca), have teamed up to provide an online version of The National Driving Test. This is an interactive online video competition that challenges drivers to score higher than their friends.
Most people I’ve spoken to feel they can actually multi-task. The reality is, they really shift from one task to another. Their brain can only handle one thing at a time. Task shifting can become so quick that people feel they are really doing more than one thing at a time that they tend to take more risks when driving than they should. As drivers, we really need to learn how to divide our attention from one thing to another.
When you take The National Driving Test, you’ll also have the opportunity to do a cognitive test to determine your ability to divide your attention. This will be a great advantage to you to find out your true ability, and not just have it based on your opinion. Peter Christianson, the president of Young Drivers of Canada tells us; “Cognitive ability is a large part of a driver’s crash-risk. Canadian drivers can flex their cognitive skills related to driving such as attention, perception, and memory in The National Driving Test, which are not only important to keep sharp for driving, but also to be safe and effective in all aspects of their lives.”
