Who said you couldn’t score while driving?
Life is too short to not have fun. Live life to the fullest is what many people say. I do try to have fun whenever I can, as do many people. Many professionals are so focused on their job they rarely have time for fun. Not so with the case of these two professional hockey players for the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. Leo Komarov and Matt Martin faced off against each other in the Ultimate Driving Test. It was fun being their driving instructor during this day as it was easy to see they were friends, teammates and loved to compete, especially against each other.
The bantering back and forth made me smile and laugh, even though I was trying to play the role of “serious instructor’ during the entire challenge. Take a look and see how well each did for yourself.
I enjoyed their competitiveness and joking they did with each other. If they made a mistake, they took it in stride, maybe after a laugh or two, (especially when Leo left the vehicle in reverse instead of drive for one of the challenges!) but in the end they wanted to drive well, and of course win the challenge! And it showed. Although I do think the reverse figure 8 was a bit of a challenge for most drivers.
On the ice both Leo and Matt show leadership. For those who watch them play, that’s obvious. They took it to that level during the Ultimate Driving Test and wanted to come out on top there as well. I wanted to offer tips when they asked, but decided not to so their competitiveness and skills could shine through. I couldn`t give anyone the unfair advantage, now could I?
What can this show other drivers? Don’t take your skills for granted. As much as you may think you can safely handle the vehicle, palming the steering wheel, looking in the wrong places can really affect where the vehicle goes and how it performs. And don`t be afraid to ask questions to those who may know things you don`t. After all, we all need to reach the finish line safely.
