Finding a trusted automotive repair shop
Faith in others can seem tough at times. There’s an old saying “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” That may be the case in many things, but with the ever changing motor vehicle, that’s not always the case. To the vehicle owner, finding that qualified automotive repair shop and technician that you can trust to perform quality work on your vehicle may take some time. Although it may take time, it’s worth it. Lives can depend on it.
My oldest son made a life decision and decided to take a job promotion and move away from his family home. The promotion meant he had to move a 3 hour drive away from his family…and his trusted automotive repair shop. We have a great repair shop which treats their customer with respect and do a great job with keeping the vehicle in top notch shape. Do you have that type of repair shop you can trust? What did you do to find such a shop?
One of the ways to find a trusted repair shop is word-of-mouth. Getting a referral from a family member or friend can help you to receive an honest opinion about their experience with their repair shop. If others are happy with the service, you may be as well. I’ve often referred my repair shop to others who are looking for just that. It can be frustrating to find a good repair shop. Doing some research online may also be a good way to see what’s available close to where you live. Online reviews may have other questions answered that your friends or family members couldn’t answer.
It’s understandable that shop rates may influence your choice of repair shop, be careful not to make your decision based on the cheapest rate. Compare each of the repair shops you’re considering. The lowest shop rate may not always perform the worst services and the most expensive repair shops may not offer the best service. Remember, it may take time to find the repair shop of your choice.
The best time to find an automotive repair shop is before you need it. If you’re already experiencing a vehicle emergency, such as it won’t start or something from the engine is smoking or burning, your judgement will be impaired. That panicking feeling may affect your decision on choosing the most appropriate repair shop for your needs and budget.
Finding a quality repair technician and repair shop is not just about price and convenience. Quality of repairs is just as important. You want your vehicle to be just as reliable as your automotive repair shop. You want the vehicle safe for you and your passengers. There’s a lot riding on your choice, so take your time and do it properly. Like most vehicle owners, you may be keeping your vehicle for a long time. This makes it even more important than ever to find and use a trusted automotive repair shop.
Excellent article Scott ! really informative and to the point. I will definitely be sharing this info with our clients.
Trust is a must, therefore never blindly go to an auto repair shop. Always, do the background research before choosing a service shop like read reviews, compare cost and check the service they offer. You will leave your car in their hands for a day to get it repaired and pay for it therefore make sure every penny is worth it.
I have been very lucky, in the past, in finding excellent repair shops; some by word of mouth, and one simply because it was the shop in the Sault at the used vehicle dealer where I had purchased my last vehicle. Roy was fair with his estimates, and straight-up about what repairs were needed. The shop in Dundas I found by trial and error. Someone had suggested that shop, so I gave it a try for a minor repair. The service was excellent, and they charged labour rates based on the “book value” or actual time spent, whichever was less. Finding a good, fair shop is essential.
